  15. <p>     DIED. JIRI HAJEK, 80, Czechoslovakia's Foreign Minister during
  16. the doomed Prague Spring of 1968; in Prague. After the Soviets
  17. sent in tanks to crush the country's reformers, Hajek passionately
  18. denounced the invasion at the U.N. He later became a founding
  19. member--together with Vaclav Havel, now President of the Czech
  20. Republic--of Charter 77, the human-rights monitoring group.
  21. After the fall of the communists, he chose not to seek political
  22. office but remained active in human rights.
